The text narrates the experience of the activity "Dialogues on strength training in sports development stages: debunking myths between the university and sports clubs," which took place among university students, teachers, athletes, and the coaching staff of a handball sports club. Throughout the workshops, the perceptions, beliefs, and experiences regarding strength training were explored among the athletes. The activity provided an appropriate space for open dialogue and identifying entrenched myths within the community regarding strength training in early stages of life, particularly in women. The results demonstrate that the interaction and exchange of ideas on strength training among different actors in the sports community and the university were valuable for debunking misconceptions and promoting more informed and effective practices. In this sense, the workshops enriched the academic training of university students and benefited the sports community by fostering a more profound and contextualized understanding of their activities. These findings highlight the importance of universities addressing the demands and concerns of the community (in this case, the sports community), contextualizing theoretical and practical knowledge accordingly. Altogether, this experience encourages the continued promotion of such initiatives, which, in addition to strengthening ties between academia and the community, benefit both parties.
