Abstract

The methodological dimension is a central issue for critical extension. This work seeks to contribute in this regard by inquiring into the historical development of reflections on participatory methodologies in Latin America. To do so, it conducts a literature review, specifically of 48 documents published between 1971 and 2020. The results indicate continuities related to epistemological reflection, a constant concern with the research subject, and their role in the process of knowledge construction. Likewise, changes are observed in the emphasis of these reflections, their ethical-political orientation, as well as in the nature of critique.
