Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate what professional technical (TP) higher education institutions in Chile are understanding for bidirectional and the eventual implication of this understanding in the way they relate to their relevant fields and environments. The research was conducted based on the analysis of 24 community engagement policies and semi-structured interviews with 8 linkage directorates/coordinators that correspond to the same number of institutions. The results allow us to conclude that TP higher education institutions have not fully understood the implications of the concept of bidirectionality, which has caused them to conceive it as an attribute or quality that must be registered and accounted for, instead of understanding it as an interactive framework of relationship with the communities.
