The current pandemic period has highlighted the urgency of the social role of public universities, represented by their extension programmes, which have become popular. The aim of this article is to analyze and catalog the students' definitions of university extension, while carrying out a remote extension course. This research was constituted from a case study, carried out with forty-four students who participated in this course, using the content analysis methodology as an analytical tool for the collected data. The results showed the social cacophony about the meaning, role and importance of this important pillar of the university tripod. Through this case study, it is possible to understand how university extension can be socially represented. Based on this understanding, the aim is to encourage the promotion of truly transformative interactions between society and the university.
